In 1865, 10 year old Wright Bailey came to St. Clair County with his parents and settled on land
now belonging to Joe Johannigmeier. The farm is located just Southwest of Appleton City. As a young man,
Wright was involved in the first train shipment of cattle from the new railway in Appleton City in 1870.
For many years he rode by horseback great distances around Appleton City buying animals and driving them to his
yards for shipment on the MKT railroad.
The stockyards which he established in the 1880's were across the road from his house at Third and Poplar which
he built for his family around 1900, the Bailey's occupied this house until 1975.
